European Leader in Industrial Storage and Security Solutions

In 2022, semiconductor shortages halted production lines. In 2023, supply chain regulations required documented component origins. The lesson: for critical applications, knowing where components are manufactured has become a strategic decision with measurable business impact.

Swissbit operates one of Europe's few remaining high-volume production facilities for industrial storage. Since 2002, our Berlin facility has manufactured millions of components under strict European quality and environmental standards.

World-Class Manufacturing in Berlin

Swissbit’s storage products, including SSDs, e.MMC modulescomponents, SD cards, and microSD cards, as well as security products such as iShield Key and data production products are manufactured in Berlin. Our facility combines automated high-volume production with the flexibility to customize products for specific customer requirements. Unlike pure assembly operations, we handle the complete process from bare semiconductor chips to tested, finished products.

The Berlin site is part of Swissbit's broader European manufacturing ecosystem, which includes R&D centers in Switzerland and Germany. This integration of development and production enables rapid prototyping, faster time-to-market for custom solutions, and direct communication between engineers and production specialists.

Why European Manufacturing Matters

Strategic EU Recognition
Selected in 2023 for IPCEI ME/CT program, Europe's largest coordinated effort to strengthen semiconductor manufacturing and reduce dependency on non-European suppliers. Aligned with European Chips Act for technological sovereignty.
Regulatory Compliance
Simplifies supply chain due diligence requirements Complies with German Supply Chain Act, NIS-2 Directive, DORA, and defense procurement regulations. European manufacturing simplifies documentation and verification of supplier practices.
Transparency & Auditability
Direct facility access and process verification Customers can visit Berlin facility, audit manufacturing processes, and meet engineering teams. Direct visibility from component sourcing through production supports regulatory documentation and risk management.
Geopolitical Risk Mitigation
Reduces dependency on single region supply chains Geographic diversification reduces exposure to trade restrictions, export controls, and political disruptions. Critical for defense contractors and infrastructure operators requiring supply chain resilience.
European Partnerships
Strengthening local sourcing and second-source strategies Hyperstone acquisition (2021) extended European controller expertise. Partnerships with European component manufacturers and research institutions create stronger European semiconductor value chain.
Customer Proximity
Faster response and shorter lead times for European customers Geographic proximity enables direct collaboration between customer and production teams, accelerating time-to-market for custom solutions and providing faster technical support.

Certified Quality & Environmental Standards

Swissbit's Berlin manufacturing operates under multiple ISO certifications:

ISO 9001 – Quality Management System:

Comprehensive quality control from incoming inspection through final testing. Every product undergoes 100% electrical testing across full temperature ranges.

IATF 16949 – Automotive Quality Management:

Additional requirements for automotive-grade products, including traceability, change management, and defect prevention.

ISO 14001 – Environmental Management:

Systematic monitoring and reduction of environmental impacts. Over 95% waste separation rate at the Berlin site.

ISO 27001 – Information Security Management:

Protection of customer data, intellectual property, and production processes against cyber threats.

ISO 50001 – Energy Management:

Energy efficiency programs targeting 90% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2027 compared to 2019 baseline.

These certifications represent audited, documented processes that ensure consistent product quality and responsible manufacturing.

Building a European Semiconductor Ecosystem

Swissbit collaborates with European research institutions and participates in industry consortia focused on semiconductor technology, manufacturing processes, and supply chain resilience. These partnerships contribute to Europe's long-term semiconductor competitiveness beyond any single company.

Our goal is not complete independence from Asian suppliers. Instead, we focus on strategic diversification: maintaining Asian partnerships while strengthening European alternatives for components where viable local sources exist.
